what a presidential man he is

Check this out -- it's a video taken when Bush was still Governor of Texas. Basically him acting like the immature all-grown-up fratboy he was then and still is now.

FIVE MORE DAYS, GEORGE.

For all you doomsdayers out there:

Hoooo, and that's in MINNESOTA, too! Check that OUT. Kerry's going to take it, and I don't think it's going to be close.

Dirty tricks!

Oh man! I just got push polled! On the telephone! I thought these things went out with the dirty tricks of the 2000 election primaries. Bush and his cronies ran a push poll campaign in the south that asked people variations of: 'If you knew that John McCain had fathered an illegitimate black child, would you be more or less willing to vote for him?' John McCain didn't father an illegitimate child, and they knew he didn't. But because he and his wife adopted a foreign child, and were seen publicly with her, it had some legs.

Basically, a push poll is a "poll" that isn't really a poll but is instead designed to scare you into voting for or against something by using deceptive questions.

So the phone just rang, I picked up, recorded voice:

'Hello! Do you plan to vote in the November 2nd Election?'

'Yes.'

'Are you planning to vote Yes or No on Measure 36, the measure that will amend the Oregon constitution to declare marriage as between only a man and a woman?'

'No'

(and here's where the push pollin' comes in)

'Does it concern you that in states like Massachusettes, (surprised they didn't call it TAXACHUSETTES, haw haw -- ed.) they are already preparing kindergarten learning materials to instruct children on the gay lifestyle. Gay marriage is legal there, are you concerned that this will happen in Oregon?'

'NO'

Der de der de der de der de der. Sigh. I feel violated!

*UPDATE*

I called the No on 36 people to let them know. Apparently their phones are ringing off the hook, and it appears the 'pollers' are calling everyone in the phone book, including the campaign offices of the local Democratic nominees.

Bush Vs. Bush

Now this is interesting. Check out this video.

It compares and constrasts George W Bush's debate and speaking style from his 1994 run for Governor of Texas and today. The differences are amazing.

It brings up a few questions:

1: DOES George W Bush have some sort of presenile dementia that's slowly taking over? I remember how he conducted himself in the 2000 debates, and even THEN he was more coherent and concise than he is now.

2: Is he faking it to appeal more to middle America? In some aspects, I'm sure he's doing this. I'm quite sure he knows how to pronounce 'Nuclear', but frankly enjoys his image as a straight talkin good ol' boy -- even if he is none of the above.

No matter which one is correct, or if it's a combination of the two -- it's not what we should have as the leader of our country. But watch the video and see for yourself.

Puttin' it in perspective

From the always informative Hesiod:

INTENT VS. CAPABILITY: This is for the wingnuts.

Spike Lee has the "intent" and "desire" to play in the NBA.

Shaquille O'Neal has the "capability."

If George W. Bush was an NBA General manager, he'd sign Spike Lee to a 5 year, $120 million contract, and tell Shaq that he's not wanted.

Well said!

Mr. Vice President: Your pants are on fire.

From the debate:

VP Cheney, in reference to John Edwards' Senate attendance record: "I'm the president of the senate, and I've never met you before tonight."

Ahem.

Cheney talked the big talk tonight, but he sure did tell a lot of whoppers. I'm surprised he would tell a lie so easily exposed. Unbelievable.

I'm not sure what to think about the debate, really. Obviously I am still a huge Kerry supporter, but I didn't think Edwards contributed a lot to what I and most americans don't already know. To be fair, the questions weren't very befitting a debate on foreign and domestic policy, so the candidates were forced to shoehorn in talking points where they could. Plus, this was the first political debate John Edwards had ever participated in, and in that respect, I thought he did a good job.

The one thing that this debate really reinforced over the last one is that Dick Cheney is the one running the show, and not Bush. At least he can articulate the administration's policies, even if he does throw a couple of whoppers in on the backside. I truly am tired of having my intelligence mocked by the Bush administration. "I never said there was a link between 9/11 and Saddam Hussein." Please. Honestly. You are on tape dozens of times saying exactly that, and NBC news was READY WITH ONE, immediately following the debate.

Some thoughts on the debates

Last night's debates were really interesting. In just 90 minutes, we saw John Kerry effectively undo three months and $150,000,000 in attack ads against him. He came across as intelligent, thoughtful, and very presidential. Every time I've seen Kerry as of late, he's impressed me more.

Bush, on the other hand, looked like a petulant, spoiled child. He was a broken record with a frown on its face -- repeating the same talking points while Kerry handily parried them away with smile and stature. Now we know why they didn't want the networks to show the other candidate while talking -- whenever Kerry would start talking, Bush's body language revealed everything. He'd shift like an uncomfortable kindergartner. He rolled his eyes, frowned, and pouted. The media jumped all over Al Gore for sighing in the first debate of the 2000 election, and this was much, much more telling.

One thing that really irritated me about Bush last night (one thing of many) was his insistant repetition of 'Wrong war, Wrong Place, Wrong Time' (25 times, just so's you know), and how could Kerry possibly know what to do in Iraq because he'd said that. Went on and on about how a president couldn't say that. He must have repeated it five or six times.

Hey George, guess what -- That line wasn't spoken by a president. It was spoken by a United States Senator who was critiquing YOUR WAR, the one YOU rushed to, the one where you planned for the best and expected the best. The one every one of your advisors has been planning since the late 1990s. Well guess what, you were all wrong, and YOU started this mess. Normally I'd want you to clean up your own mess, but I'll trust someone else to do it for you. Thanks, but no thanks. Oh, and PS: quit confusing Saddam and Osama. It's insulting.

All the polls, media outlets, and blogs are declaring the debate a clear victory for Kerry - in the topic that Bush is supposedly the strongest in. What's going to happen when we get to domestic policy, Bush's *weakness*?

A Comparison Study

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
Then you're absolutely...right!
